Why this is a
Masterpiece

The work is stunning in realism and detail. A Balinese equivalent of trompe-l'oeil. On closer examination, though, one sees that the work has no real depth.

History of the Object
I Nyoman Meja was born in Taman, Ubud. In the 1970s he met Rudolf Bonnet, after which his modern vision developed. He painted various themes, among which masks were prevalent. In the 1980s, he started to paint the world of children.
