Masterpiece

This is a photo of our present museum building, which makes it historically interesting for us.

History of the Object
The building was finished in 1902. It was built for the specific purpose of establishing a medical school. Dr. H.F. Roll, the later director of the STOVIA designed it. This photo shows the entrance building. STOVIA was a complex of buildings with a large garden of 15,000 square metres approximately.

Acquisition
Donated by the Jakarta Government in 1983, a year after it transferred the museum to the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Jakarta secured the management through 1983. In 2001 the museum was transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The Jakarta Government found the photos in the Archives of the Colonial Government around 1950.
