KHM_6992-7

Why this is a
Masterpiece

It is a beautiful work. It seems as if the lively arabesque design and textures expressed on this barrel-shaped bottle, reveal the state of mind of the potter at the time. He must have been absorbed in his creative work without any constraints.

History of the Object
Iron underglaze techniques were widely used on porcelains, manfuactured from the klin found at the foot of Mt. Gyeryong, Hagbongri in Gongju. These were called Buncheong wares, and were popular in the 15th century of the Joseon Period. Buncheong wares are famous for displaying distinctive features of each region where they are manufactured.
