Masterpiece

The inro is decorated with a gold lacquer ground and decorated in shades of gold and coloured hiramakie and takamakie. It is inlaid with carved shell and gold flakes with an all-over pattern of butterflies.

History of the Object
This inro was donated as part of a collection of 2,000 objects gifted to the museum by the Hon. Walter Samuel through the Art Fund in 1923.
