Why this is a
Masterpiece

The most beautiful pieces of amulet pendants may be dated to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The neck and breast were lavishly adorned with choker bands and long chains, to which heavy triangular or diamond-shaped pendants (tumar) were attached, sometimes functioning as amulet-cases. Inside it contains usually a protective proverb from the Koran. In the Middle East, the triangle has been credited with a protective function since times immemorial. The number of cornelians reinforces the protection inherent in the talisman and indicates the owner's high social status.

History of the Object
A Turkmen woman acquired her jewellery through her family and at her wedding as part of her dowry. The amulet case is prized by the woman above all other jewellery because of its powers of protection. Some even wear it about their waist to ease the pains of childbirth.
