Besides being artistically beautiful it also shows the way Siebold had his collection registered. The notes written on the drawing show us the history of the research into the collection.

History of the Object
Siebold ordered many drawings of plants and animals from Keiga to document the shapes and colours of the natural world of Japan.

The work is part of the Siebold Collection. Collected by Philipp Franz von Siebold in Japan, between 1823 and 1830. The natural species and drawings of animals and plants became part of the collection of NCB Naturalis when Siebold sold his collection to the Dutch Government.
