Why this is a
Masterpiece

Most of them were bound into portfolios and sold, allowing them to be viewed only one by one. This is the reason why, by the time they arrived in the European collections as decorative articles, few paintings remained with their original binding, therefore losing the information about the painters or the painting workshops that were featured on the covers.

History of the Object: In the middle of the 19th century, Chinese painting on rice paper became another export product. The technique and the type of paper used allowed for increased production in several painting workshops and made it possible to supply the demand from travelers and navigators who transported them even for trading outside of China. However, this also had negative consequences because of the fragility of this type of paper only a few paintings remain.
