Why this is a
Masterpiece

This gold pendent covered with painted enamel ranks a special place in the Museum's collection. Virtuoso technique had been used to incorporate elements typical of filigree ornamentation in this type of work. The object represents an eight-petaled flower with suspended pearls. The jeweller had trimmed each petal with a cone-shaped projection topped by a gem.

History of the Object
In the 19th century painted enamel work held a prominent place among Azerbaijanian jewelry with its centre in Baku. Gold jewelry was usually coated with red, blue and green enamel with hues ranging from the light to the darkest. The background was chiefly of white enamel and the ornament exclusively floral.
