Why this is a
Masterpiece

From an artistic aspect, the artist captured the spirit of HRH and presented it in metaphor. Dressed in the Border Patrol Police uniform, sitting on a rock, and gesturing informally, it represents her work and her love of nature. The unrealistic long limbs, sculpted in a close form represents her extensive compassion toward the people lacking opportunity in the remote areas of Thailand. As a ceremonial icon, the sculpture becomes the focus of a memorial ceremony every July 18, the date HRH passed away. People from every province in northern Thailand and elsewhere visit Rai Mae Fah Luang to pay homage to the late Princess Mother, bringing flowers and offerings to be placed before her image. The sculpture is the tangible form of HRH’s compassion for those less fortunate, memorializing her dedication to improving their lives.

History of the Object
The artist created this sculpture when she was almost 80 years old and claimed that it was her most loved and revered work. She presented the sculpture to HRH The Princess Mother on her 84th birth anniversary. Larger than life-size, the sculpture modeled HRH as she was known best: “The Royal Mother from the Sky” or “Mae Fah Luang”.
