Why this is a
Masterpiece

This is an artefact that shows very clearly the cultural exchange between the Viet and the Han dynasty in the early years of the resistance to Northern (Chinese) domination.

History of the Object
Found at Lach Truong district, Thanh Hoá province. This tray reflects the cultural influence in the material life of the ancient Viet. They learned the techniques of glazed ceramics from abroad, but adapted it to their own culture and developed it into an expression of aesthetic richness. The motif of three fish watching the moon is a legend imbued with the Chinese culture. The tangent circles are typical of the Dong Son culture. The bottom of the tray shows the cultural exchange between Han dynasty (Chinese) and Viet., The outside shows the adaptation into the native culture of the Viet people at that time.
