Hanyang904
Download print email facebook twitter me2day

Why this is a
Masterpiece

The technique of ironized glaze on celadon appeared in the early Goryo dynasty (918~1392), in the 10th Century. A cup with a white flower on dark oxidized iron glaze might have been highly appreciated by ancient scholars for drinking wine.

History of the Object
This dark celadon-glazed kettle with a flower motif is gracefully formed with a ringed cover. The surface of the body was coated with an oxidized pigment and the area of the flower pattern was scraped off to apply a white clay solution by brushing and then glazed before being fired.
