Why this is a
Masterpiece

In case of this thangka one is amazed by the attention to detail filling almost all pictorial space and, at the same time, by the fact that the main figure is not lost in a tangle of these details. Harmonious composition, vivid, elegant and tasteful use of colour enable not only spiritual contemplation and reflection on its religious meaning but when we look at this masterpiece we can find purely aesthetic pleasure in it as well. http://cyfrowe.mnw.art.pl/dmuseion/docmetadata?id=18968&from=&dirids=55&tab=1&show_nav=true&full_screen=true#

History of the Object
On one hand fully developed Tibetan style, on the other a style bearing strong Nepalese and some Chinese features might be a proof that the scroll-painting was created in east Tibet during the time of the Qing Dynasty. One can only guess where the Polish collector took it from -- maybe from China, maybe from Tibet or India.
