Why this is a
Masterpiece

Floral and geometric designs are beautifully carved on this wooden block. It would hardly be reproduced like an elaborate work is reproduced at present. The books decorated with paper or silk printed by this block would have been considered very valuable ones by ancient scholars. The design of this wooden block was used for decorating the pictorial book of this museum.

History of the Object
It was not until the end of the Goryo dynasty that the book assumed the shape of a book of today. Before the middle of the Goryo dynasty, most books were usually formed as a scroll. Woodblock for cover printing began to develop with the appearance of a book form of today.
