Why this is a
Masterpiece

This is a sculpture of high quality.

History of the Object
The Lopburi period in Thailand shows obvious Khmer influence in the 7th century. Archaeological evidence of Mahayana Buddhism and Hinduism has been found at Prasat Phnomrung in Buriram Province, Prasat Sikhoraphum in Surin province, Prangku in Chaiyaphum province and other sites. This statue,Phra Bhaisajyaguru Vaitoonprapha or God of Medicine, was usually found at those Khmer temples which were said to have been hospitals in the Khmer King Jayavarman VII period. It was believed that if someone suffered from pain in a part of the body the person should touch the equivalent of that bodypart. For instance with painful eyes, people should touch the eye of Phra Bhaisajyaguru Vaitoonprapha and the pain would disappear.
