Why this is a
Masterpiece

The painting of Zhu Da was well known in the world, and his calligraphy style was also unique. He absorbed the quintessence not from only one school, but from many master calligraphers in Jin and Tang Dynasty, and was most influenced by Dong Qichang. Holding the idea of "exacting the essence from the predecessors while not fettered by them", he formed an original and unique style in writing which was fresh and vigorous.

History of the Object
This piece of calligraphy carried the signature of Zhu Da's pseudonym, Ba Da Shan Ren, and was a work finished in his later years.
