Masterpiece

This brace, one of a set of three, is made by the most talented woodcarvers named Newars, from the Kathmandu valley.

History of the Object
Traditional wooden architecture of Nepal had numerous decorative elements. Among them the most characteristic is openwork lattices and braces for holding outputted overlaps of roofs. They are decorated with ornaments, images of deities, people and animals, as well as genre and erotic scenes.
