Why this is a
Masterpiece

This coin is an important historical object, indicating not only the entry of Azerbaijan into the Iranian Sasanid State but also that coin mints were remained on the territory of Azerbaijan.

History of the Object
The acceleration of Sasanid expansion in the South Caucasus which began from the 5th century gave impetus to the development of coinage in Azerbaijan. Dozens of coin treasuries consisting of monetary production of more than 100 city mints of Iranshahr and reflecting not only the high level of monetary trade, but also trade and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and the outside world, were discovered in North Azerbaijan in the last centuries. This also testifies the exceptional geopolitical position of Azerbaijan, which played an important role in international trade relations between the countries from the East and the West. Trade was carried out on the Silk Road--the main highway which passed through Azerbaijan. A significant portion of these treasures have coins struck in the Azerbaijani cities - Derbend, Boguvane (Baku), Partav (Barda), Aran (Paytakarane - Baylakan), Gilan, Nakhchivan, Shize and Kazak. Among them mints with a geographically-geographical designation "Aturpatakan" (Ardabil) and "Airan" are particularly important.
