Why this is a
Masterpiece

The Han Dynasty pottery jar is symmetrically shaped. It is unglazed and has remains of plain white, ochre, and reddish lines and swirl decoration. As opposed to many gorgeous prehistoric and early historic archaeological pottery findings, it seems simple and unsophisticated. However, when looking closely at it, one can find a subtle but appealing detail: the fingerprints of its manufacturer on the surface. The fingerprints were probably hidden under the white and ochre color that formed the decoration, and they appeared after the decoration was effaced over the centuries. These fingerprints represent a visible bond between the ancient master potter and us - admirers of its creation
