Why this is a
Masterpiece

Headcloth with crocodile designs, from the Bagobo (Mindanao). The crocodile design is often used in Bagobo material culture. To be effective as a charm it had to be worn close to the human skin. Bregald's collection contains some beautiful, early collected, Philippine pieces, but we do not know much about the collector. By dr Pieter ter Keurs, Curator Insular Southeast Asian Collections, Leiden.

History of the Object
Collected very early (before 1866). It is part of a collection that has been bought by the museum from a Mr. Brégald in Paris.
