This jade book consists of fifty-three jade tablets, engraved and gilded with the full text of the Buddhist doctrine known as the Perfection of Wisdom. These three illustrations show the Buddha surrounded by followers and heavenly guardians.

History of the Object
Jade has been revered in China since prehistoric times. Because of its beauty, hardness, and rarity, it was associated with immortality and believed to have magical and healing properties.
