This colour-painted polo figurine was found in Xinjiang, which shows that the sport was once popular in the Xinjiang region.

History of the Object
Polo originated from Persia and later, with the opening of the Silk Road, it spread to China. The Silk Road promoted economical and cultural exchange between Western countries and China. Polo is a team sport, a ball game played while riding on a horse. It was played both as competitive sport as well as an extension of a circus performance. After Polo had spread into China, it became very popular in the Central Plains during the Sui and Tang Dynasty.
