Why this is a
Masterpiece

Chosen and explained by Ryoji SASAHARA "The ‘Chanpuru’ Instrument". Rinsuke called his music ‘Chanpuru’, a mixture of Okinawan, Japanese, Western and Latin music. Similarly the yunshin is a mixed instrument, part sanshin and part electric guitar. It is profoundly indicative of his character. I visited Rinsuke’s home in Koza (now a city in Okinawa) to pick up the yunshin. Rinsuke died two years ago. I can’t help imagining him in good health when I hear his CD, or watch his playing in the movie “Untamagiru”.

History of the Object
Mr. Rinsuke TERUYA had a ‘yunshin’, which is his favorite instrument. He was a popular musician of world renown, and also a vaudevillian and comic chat artist. A yunshin is an instrument with the body and long neck of a sanshin, but with four strings. The pickup is fitted into the instrument’s body and connected to an amplifier.
