Why this is a
Masterpiece

The lost wax process made this complicated anthropomorphic shape possible. Since the mould must be broken to remove the bronze it ensures the uniqueness of the figurine. At the same time it fits into the iconography of a “master of animals” known throughout the Ancient Near East magnificently.

History of the Object
The Luristan bronze collection in Medelhavsmuseet is among the largest and most varied of Luristan collections outside Iran since most were acquired early in the 1930s. Published in Pat Marino, 2000, Bronser från Luristan/Ancient Persian Metalwork, Medelhavsmuseet. Skrifter 21, Stockholm.
