Why this is a
Masterpiece

This is a characteristic masterpiece of the great Chinese landscape painter from his last period. Huang Binhong was one of the most prominent representatives of 20th century Chinese landscape painting. This piece is inscribed with a poem and has two seals. Signed by Binhong at the age of 89 (dated 1952).

History of the Object
Landscape (Chinese: 'mountain-water picture') has the highest rank and is in the most important aesthetic category of traditional Chinese painting. It is the pictorial representation of the ideas of Chinese philosophy.

Function
Originally a painting without mounting, now it is framed. 
Acquisition
Huang Binhong, then professor of the Academy of Fine Arts at Hangzhou presented this painting to the Hungarian cultural delegation visiting China in 1954. Tibor Horváth, Director of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts was member of this delegation. Through him, the painting was given to the Chinese Collection of the museum.
