Why this is a
Masterpiece

Production of clay funeral sculpture began in Han epoch (206 BC-221 CE), developed in the time of Tang dynasty and disappeared in later epochs. Clay statues of courtiers, animals, models of furniture and other objects were placed in dignitaries' graves as the furnishings and equipment of deceased in the spirit world. This kind of funeral sculpture provides us with numerous source materials for the study of an historical epoch. Funeral clay figures usually represented different social types. On this basis we can learn about the canons of fashion and ideals of beauty of a woman - of lush curves, full face, delicate features and elaborately arranged hair. The certificate of authenticity place the object among the highest quality artifacts in the collection.

History of the Object
The figure of a lady-in-waiting was purchased from a private collector. It has a certificate issued by Oxford Authentication Ltd: Thermoluminescence Anallysis Report (Ample No C104a64 from 28 January 2004) proving a date of its creation (Tang dynasty period).
