It is made of fine yellow pottery mud. The sculpture is in the form of a person‘s head and an ox’s head. The man wears a high hat in the shape of a spiral, he has a broad forehead and eyebrows, a high nose and a long beard. The design is very vividly depicted The man clearly has the features of Caucasian race. It may be the image of a businessman that was passing by on the Silk Road.

The Tang Dynasty, with its capital at Chang'an (present-day Xi'an) is generally regarded as a high point in Chinese civilization. The Tang Dynasty was largely a period of progress and stability.
